Ketoconazole Archives

I have a pretty bad case of tinea versicolor which is those white blotches that some people notice on their skin after laying in the tanning bed or something like that. It covers my shoulders, upper arms, chest, and I have a few on my face. :( It really bothers me so I stopped tanning altogether in the hopes that they would fade. I haven’t tanned at all in over 2 months and they are still there and I actually think they are spreading. First I got some Ketoconazole lotion from the derm. and used it for a few weeks with no results. Then I started trying remedies from the internet. I used Nizoral shampoo and left it on my skin for a while and then washed it off. After I washed it off I put on some clotimazole cream(a suggestion by a pharmacist). After a few days of trying this solution, I noticed extremely dry skin that was red and almost looked sore-like or burn-like. I immediately stopped using the medicines all-together. A week later I still have the white spots and the "burns." HELP!
Also- I am leaving for a cruise on Thursday and I really would like to be able to relax and lay in the sun, but I don’t want either the white blotches or the "burns" to get worse.(and a side note about the "burns": it’s everywhere where I put the medicines and my skin is really rough and hard feeling. It’s not red all over, but there are red "lesions" in different parts of the dry skin.) Also, I am leaving for college in about two weeks and really, really want all of this gone so I don’t have to worry about it up there. Any information would be helpful, but please don’t give me any remedies that could make the situation worse as the last remedy did. Thank you for your time!
All of these treatments are for the tinea versicolor. What can I do to get rid of the dry skin and "lesions"?

Condition began apx 5 years ago under eyebrows, spread to painful cracking behind ears. Assumed "barber’s itch". Progressed to sides of nostrils, throughout moustache and beard around chin. Shaving area around mouth causes bright red inflammation & bleeding, so usually keep goatee. Most recently spreading into ear canals and nostrils, also beginning to cover eyelids. Have treated with ketoconazole (antifungal) and hydrocortisone (which irritates it). No pimples or itching; just flaking, cracking and pain (esp. behind ears). Grossed out yet? I am - very grateful for any help!!!

A little under a week ago, I started getting red painless red spots on the tip of my penis. I only received oral sex for the first time a little under a year ago. I have not had vaginal intercourse. I went to urgent care and he said it did not look like an STD and it probably wasn’t. He said it was a yest infection because I washed my penis to much and it washed away all the good fungus or something like that. I am uncircumcised. Then he prescribed me Ketoconazole. I got tested for STD’s that day, just to be on the safe side, for my future reference. The spots are starting to go away…So what does this sound like? Im just curious, until the test results.

I have moderate-to-severe seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp. It’s definitely stress-related as it flares up during stressful periods. In the past my dermatologist prescribed Nizoral (ketoconazole) shampoo but I was not pleased enough with the results to keep using it instead of my regular shampoo.

Anyone have good experiences with other prescription (or non-prescription) shampoos? I’ve just come across Capex (fluocinolone) and Loprox (ciclopirox) while searching the web so I’d be especially interested in hearing about those.

1. For her pet bed and blanky will hot water in the wash and detergent be enough? I have nature’s miracle too, do those enzymes have any effect in breaking up spores?
2. I have carpeting. Vet said all I can really do is vacuum. I already have a Eureka boss smart vac with the HEPA filter, I’m guessing that will be enough?? I have a steam cleaner too, will that work against spores?
3. Lysol spray - it says it works for the athletes foot fungus, will this work for the ringworm spores too?
4. She will be starting ketoconazole (a special liquid form b/c she is a kitten) once it gets delivered here (prob tomorrow) but should I also try to kill spores in her fur? I was thinking maybe fungisan spray for cats? She is almost 4 mo. old now ( and 3.7 lbs).
5. I have another cat, they have been separated but they would play footsie. Other cat is 8mo old now and healthy. No signs of infection. Been 2 weeks since it began in 3 mo old, are chances in her favor of being in the clear??
I said no bleach b/c you can’t bleach these items, and we are renters and would be screwed if we got bleach spots on the carpet!
He did not discuss lyme sulfur dips, but didn’t seem to big on the cat bathing thing. I don’t really know how to prevent reinfection though unless I get rid of what is in her fur too, so I’m kinda going out on my own here. I’ve read about stuff like malaseb, I don’t want to stress her out with baths though so the spray looks tempting and safe.

My 7 month old lil girl seems to have an allergy to something. she has already been to the dr. several times for this matter. she has exzcema and I’ve been treating it with hydracortisone cream. She was throwing up also, so the dr. now has her on two medications for that for the n ext month. I also am washing her scalp once a day with a ketoconazole shampoo, but that is not helping whatsoever. the skin on her scalp and forehead is very dry and scaly/flaky, and she has several scabs all over hear head (tiny ones) from her scratching herself mostly at night in bed. Im keeping her nails trimmed, etc. but she still gets herself. her eyes also periodically bother her and she itches those also.
she is pretty much down to only eating formula right now as I try to figure out what the allergy is. the dr. was insistent that it was a food allergy, but the skin thing, especially her eyes and scalp, im not so sure of.
has anyone else experienced any of this with their baby? how do
i help her with this? id really like to see her head clear up, and her eyes not bother her. she seems so miserable at times and i feel helpless. any advice is much appreciated, thank you.
she only has the scaly skin on her scalp/head. the rest of the exzcema is tiny red dots.
also, she is on similac alimentum formula which is non allergenic and shes been on it for months w/out any of these problems.
new momma i agree that it is hereditary, i also have ezcema.

I’m almost about to loose my mind over this. Its been almost a year. I started out with really bad itching and white discharge. After a while the discharge went away but the itching did not. I went to my gyno and he told me that if looks like an infection gave me some treatment (vagina suppositories, and some medication to take orally). I ddint feel any itching while i was taking the medication but as soon as i stopped the itching returned.
I went to another doctor a couple more times she gave my diflucan and flagyl.I went to another doctor just recently and he told me that it looks like some type of fungus…..He game me Ketoconazole and flagyl…
It seemed to be working but as soon as i finished taking it i started itching. I’ve been in doctor’s office almost every month for almost a year. And still no relif…I was tested for clamidya,HIV and some other STI’s everything came back normal. What can this be?

I havent had sex since before I started itching and I dont intend to until this goes away..but what can this be?

I have had my guinea pig for about 6 months now and he has been getting these bald spots on his back and his legs due to itching and chewing at himself. So i brought him to the vet and they put him on some liquid saying it was mites/mange… well after 3 weeks and it was somewhat working on the legs but worsening on the back we stopped it and he put him on a cream which is ketoconazole saying it might be a fungus well i used to for 3 days and it wasn’t working it was making this even more worse and making my guinea pig mad… Any suggestion on what to do… There aren’t any more vets around here to bring him to; and the vet is usually open to suggestion that i say… Please help

I noticed a small red, rashy spot on the very top of my thigh about a month ago. It is close to my groin area but on the thigh. I have HSV1, the genital kind, so I thought that it was the beginning of an outbreak, and I didn’t worry about it too much. Thing is though, I still have the rash and I have never had an outbreak last this long. In fact, the only thing close to an outbreak I’ve ever had was the first occurence of herpes, when I 1st got it and was diagnosed with it. Last week I called a RN at Planned Parenthood and she called in a script for Acyclovir 200 mg to take 3X daily for 5 days. That is kind of a lot of meds right? I took the medicine as prescibed and rash is still there. Then I went to another Dr. the other day who told me it didn’t look like herpes or any kind of infection really, just looked like a fungus/jock itch and prescribed me Ketoconazole topical cream. How long will it take to work? The insert that came with it said to apply for 2 weeks or until symptoms resolve. Will it really take that long??? I want to wear a bathing suit soon and I can’t with this ugly rash on me!

Okay, so I have had really bad dandruff. I have very short hair(around 1.5cm) in length. When it gets a little longer the dandruff seems to worsen slightly. I am in my teens and a male.

I have used Head&Shoulders products.

I have also used over-the-counter prescription strength shampoos like Nizoral shampoo which contains Ketoconazole as the active ingredient.

I have begun trying other methods such as brushing my hair incredibly vigorously about once a week. It seems to get a good portion of the dandruff out however I would like to see a long-term solution.
Enough with the whole "use Selson Blue" crap. I have already used 5 other prescription strength shampoos. They obviously aren’t working.

And don’t bother saying visit your doctor. It doesn’t take a genius to know that is an option.

I am looking more along the lines of other methods.
