My Betta fish has a fungal infection. Will salt help? If no, then where are some good places to get meds?
I’ve had this fish for about a week now and just changed his water, and upgraded his tank. I don’t live anywhere near a pet store.

Yes. Some times the salt works. Two fungal species Achyla & Saprolegnia are reported to infect wide variety of aquarium fishes at all stages. Fungal attack is always a secondary factor usually occurring after mechanical injury or other kinds of damage to the skin. The sign of this disease is cotton wool like growth on fish. It may spread to fins, mouth, eyes & gill. Heavy infection results in respiratory impairment & finally death of the infected fish.
Control:
Bath treatment in 3% Common salt solution.
Malachite green (0.1 ppm) for seven hrs.
Treat with 0.5 ppm KMNO4 solution.
no salt…you will need to go to a pet store or If u live by a walmart they should have something for it but no salt.
no def use salt.
I have bettas and I have found that anytime they are sick, salt is the best to use for the short term. But definitely go to some other store, if you don’t live close to a Pet Store, then check Walmart because I find good medications for cheap prices. Then choose a medication which treats fungal infections.
if its truely a fungal infection, then you need to pick up some fungal meds and follow directions.
fungus tablets
A little salt might help. I generally try a salt bath followed by a fungal treatment. See the link for details.
maracyn is the best thing to use. If not try salt water baths. As said Walmart or a fish selling store should have some.
Salt is always good but make sure it is aquarium salt. Aquarium salt will also help PREVENT things like velvet and other fungal infections. As far as the current fungal infection i would try to find some Jungle fungus cleaner tablets. Use 1 tablet per 10 gallons of water, make sure to take out any activated carbon you have in your filter as this will counter the medicine. It will turn your water a bluish-green, that is OK. It will treat the water for 4 days. If the infection is not gone, you can treat again for another 4 days after you have done a 25% water change.
you have to get a treatment at a pet shop/store. they shouldn’t be that expensive
