I have been bothered with a "lump in my throat" (feels like phlegm) since last April. I’ve had a barium swallow, tonsilectomy, sinus surgery, etc. The barium swallow proved negative for AR. I went to a different ENT and he said I have a fungus in my throat. I was on Diflucan for 4 weeks. I go back to the doctor next week to get checked. The feeling is back (although it never completely went away.) I’ve been to internal medicine, GI, and 2 ENT’s. At times it feels like my throat swells up–and it seems like maybe it’s after I eat certain things like peanuts/peanut butter, chocolate, or cheese. Does anyone have any ideas for me? I would appreciate any help your suggestions you can give.

I have a genetic vulnerability to fungi. Did the feeling go away after 4 weeks on Diflucan? You said the feeling came back, implies that when you took the diflucan it helped? If the diflucan helped then that sounds like fungus to me.

Here’s what else I could say-

Peanut butter, chocolate, and cheese all stick in your throat after you eat them.

I’m guessing cancer is out of the question since you’ve had it since april.

I’m not a doctor, good luck.

i went through the same feeling over xmas last year…it was horrible…my throat was so swollen i had to focus on breathing in!! i was in the plane when it started and it was after i had swallowed some nuts….(im not allergic to them usually)…when i got the the hospital they said it was a gastric reflux and that causes the throat to swell up….not to mention dryness of the throat from panic!! i was prescribed something called Omeprazole 20mg capsules for 3 months(one a day)….the symptoms improved drastically and now i can eat almst anything i want…apparently my reflux was caused my acute stress endured during the preceeding months especially 2/3 days before the incident.

im not completely recovered, however im feeling alot better.

if you feel worse try some Gaviscon cos before i got the meds i tried it and it made me feel better and stopped the symptoms temporarily.

Try adding a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to water after every meal. It has excellent healing properties, and if you suffer from acid reflux/fungus, etc. you could find yourself feeling better pretty quickly. You could even try gargling with it. It is the best thing you take do to balance your pH level and it kills fungus, bacteria etc. Although it’s an acid, it balances your own stomach acid, and also breaks down phlegm. It also helps with weight loss, arthritis and the list goes on! Everyone should add this to their daily diet!
