Not likely, but it is possible that having sex will create a fungus to grow in your vagina– the most likely candidate is a yeast infection. As my gyno told me just a few weeks ago, your vagina has an ecosystem of its own. Anything can throw it off and it’s nothing to worry about.
Yeast is a bacteria that grows naturally in your vagina. It’s a common occurence, but when you consider how many people are having sex and NOT getting yeast infections, it’s really nothing to worry about.
If you get yeast infections a lot or are worried, you can eat a lot of yogurt or take acidophilus supplements. These little cultures help to maintain the natural balance of your vagina. If you think you currently have a yeast infection, you can wait it out as it will probably go away on its own OR you can go to the doctor and get a prescription for diflucan OR you can get an over-the-counter cream/suppository. They tend to work pretty well.
However, if you’re thinking about having sex and worried about a fungus growing your vagina– don’t think twice about it. There are more important things to worry about– STDs and getting pregnant are on top of the list.
