Why do I end up having an ear infection everytime I catch a cold?

I’ve had three colds in the past 5-6 months or so, and each time I ended up getting an ear infection around the 4th or 5th day of my infection. Right now, my ear is blocking again and I fear I have yet another ear infection! What could cause this, and should I take antibiotics again?

Alright, so I went to the hospital on sunday night and was told I have an ear infection. The gave me some medication for the pain and an antibiotic. The next day I went to CVS and got the medication and have been taking it twice daily like it says for the last three days. I feel better when the medication is in but once it wears off I’m in some pain again. I’ve also been using drops. Is it normal to still be in some pain when the medication wears off?
