I have very flaky and peely skin on my face (eyebrows, forehead, nose, cheeks, chin) for the past 5 years.
Lotions don’t work. I don’t have any medical issues (checked thyroid, liver, kidneys, etc)
I’m assuming it’s a fungus?
However, it’s not itchy.
When I tried 2 antifungal creams, it didn’t work.
Do I need a pill?
Or is this just…. not a fungus?
thank you so much for your advice.

About 2 years ago, I rescued a little Shih Tzu with quite a few medical problems. She has epilepsy, which is now under control.. but her worst problems are her re-occurring yeast infections & skin allergies.
My vet and I have exhausted all of our options. She’s on a very specialized diet..which has pretty much eliminated her skin allergies.. but I can’t seem to beat the yeast infections and it’s driving me crazy.
I do a yeast-controlling, medicated shampoo bath a few times a week..which helps very temporarily.
So far, the only thing that has worked is the medication ketoconazole. However, my dog can only take this medication for extreme flare-ups as, paired with the phenobarbital for her seizures, is quite hard on her little liver.
Any ideas or suggestions are VERY much appreciated. I’m at a loss here.
I have been taking Ketoconazole (sp?) for a few weeks now because I recently visited my doctor and was told I have ringworm.
At first I started with the Ketoconazole cream, which did not work for me and only made the ringworm spread. After realizing this, I made another trip back to my doctor and they prescribed me the Ketoconazole pill, which slowly but surely has been working. Thankfully the ringworm stopped spreading and is healing after taking this medication on a daily basis.
My problem is — I’m going on vacation for 2 weeks in three days, and I’ve got about 4 or 5 of these pills left. I called in today to ask if the doctor could give me a refill so I could continue taking the meds because the ringworm certainly isn’t gone yet and I was told to continue taking it even about a week after it has disappeared. The doctor requested that I come back AFTER vacation to get a refill. She only said this because according to her, Ketoconazole is very bad for a person’s liver.
So I’m wondering: Is it really going to be better if I do this? I’ve taken some time to think about it and it really makes no sense.
I know if I stop taking this stuff, the ringworm is going to start spreading again. It’s only going to become a bigger problem and most likely after getting back I will have to take even more of this stuff that I would if I continued taking it during my vacation because it’s going to spread and possibly get bigger in the spots it’s already on. Would that not be WORSE for my liver?
Instead of stopping the meds for 2 weeks, would it not be quicker and healthier if I continued taking them once on a daily basis as I have been?
I’ve been so self conscious about myself and my skin since this appeared and I really just want it gone. This whole thing sounds ridiculous to me and I really think the doctor should have done some consideration before telling me to come back after vacation.
I am planning on going in today and showing her that this stuff is not gone and that it would be best if I continued the meds. Any opinions or advice?
I’ve heard that the tablets you can take can damage your liver and the topical treatments don’t really work. Is this true? Any ideas?
This shampoo contains Ketoconazole which can damage your liver and kidneys. My dandruff is bad, but I dont know if I should be using something so dangerous. What should I do and has anyone tried Nizoral? Also is it really THAT effective?
Have considered asking my doctor to prescribe Lamisil for a nail fungal infection. Why is it so darn expensive??? Any generic alternatives out there?? Would you kill your own liver or kidneys just to have beautiful nails?
I have to be on this medication for two weeks, and it says on the bottle do not take with alcohol. I know that it goes straight to your liver and thats why it shouldn’t be taken with alcohol, but with the coming christmas holidays i really don’t know if its possible for me to avoid liquor. haha.
Whats the worst that will happen if i take alcohol while on this medication?
I don’t want to have an antifungal oral medicine as I am already taking Zocor (both are bad for liver). Someone suggested Vics vapor rup for a few months. Is that true? Please help.
The lamasil treatment will take 3 months. Taking a pill every day for 3 months doesn’t sound too good. I don’t like taking a lot of meds. Is there anything out there that can defeat this nail fungal infection that won’t ruin my liver?
