Can u get tinea capitis (fungal scalp infection) from tinea pedis (athlete’s foot) or tinea Unguium (fungal infection of the toenail)? Is it the same fugus 4 these infections? cuz my BF has athletes foot & the fungal infection in his toenails. & the gross thing is he always has to put his feet on the pillows, which I constantly tell him not 2. & now, at 1st I thought I was getting pimples on my scalp, but now along with that I have like crusty spots on my scalp, sometimes they itch just a little (Iknow its not dandruff. I dunno what color it is cuz my hair is in the way. However, I got a little red crusty textured skin spot just under my nose. I heard Selsin blue shampoo can kill some fungal skin infections, so I have been using it 4 my scalp and that spot under my nose. It has almost completely cleared up under my nose & also helped for my scalp. This is tinea capitis right? Did I get it from his feet?Do u think the shampoo will kill it or should I get meds 4 it?wut else may be best?
I currently have one spot of tinea versicolor on my face. I had it for about two weeks but i didnt know what it was so i went to the doc. he said i got it from swimming and i guess since im doing cross country right now the sweat and bacteria must have caused it . He gave me a prescription for ketoconazole 2% cream. Ive been using it for the past two weeks , applying it twice a day. It seems my spot has a darken spot in the center of the circle, and the outer thin circle is white. Im hoping that this is a good sign so can you tell me if this is a bad or a good sign ?
Okay I went to the dermatologist a couple days ago and I showed him my skin on my stomach and lower back. I have spots that are a lighter tone than my skin tone. I’ve had this problem since as I was a little kid like 7 years old but me and my mom always thought it would just go away. Now i’m 16 and it seems to have spread a bit more. I have it on my chest, stomach and lower back. My dermatologist prescribed me a ketoconazole cream to be applied twice daily. I have been doing so but I was wondering if my skin tone will ever be even and if so how long will it take for me to see results?
PS: My dermatologist never said I have Tinea versicolor but I went online and googled the kenoconazole cream he prescribed me for the "skin discoloration" and I came across a site about tinea versicolor. I looked at the photos and automatically realized that is what I have.
I have a spot of tinea versicolor on my back. (It’s a fungal infection that causes the spot of skin to lose its pigmentation). I have tried treating it with selenium sulfide dandruff shampoo, but that didn’t seem to have any effect on it. My doctor prescribed Nizoral (ketoconazole) pills to try to treat it orally — however, the Nizoral has a lot of possible side effects, and you have to sweat when you take it in order to get the medicine to your skin. So I’m a little worried about starting the Nizoral treatment. However, I want to get rid of this before I get my summer tan, because tanning makes it really show up (since that patch of skin doesn’t tan).
Has anyone had this? Did you cure it? How did you cure it? If you took Nizoral, did you have any side effects, and did it work? Thanks!
I have a pretty bad case of tinea versicolor which is those white blotches that some people notice on their skin after laying in the tanning bed or something like that. It covers my shoulders, upper arms, chest, and I have a few on my face.
It really bothers me so I stopped tanning altogether in the hopes that they would fade. I haven’t tanned at all in over 2 months and they are still there and I actually think they are spreading. First I got some Ketoconazole lotion from the derm. and used it for a few weeks with no results. Then I started trying remedies from the internet. I used Nizoral shampoo and left it on my skin for a while and then washed it off. After I washed it off I put on some clotimazole cream(a suggestion by a pharmacist). After a few days of trying this solution, I noticed extremely dry skin that was red and almost looked sore-like or burn-like. I immediately stopped using the medicines all-together. A week later I still have the white spots and the "burns." HELP!
Also- I am leaving for a cruise on Thursday and I really would like to be able to relax and lay in the sun, but I don’t want either the white blotches or the "burns" to get worse.(and a side note about the "burns": it’s everywhere where I put the medicines and my skin is really rough and hard feeling. It’s not red all over, but there are red "lesions" in different parts of the dry skin.) Also, I am leaving for college in about two weeks and really, really want all of this gone so I don’t have to worry about it up there. Any information would be helpful, but please don’t give me any remedies that could make the situation worse as the last remedy did. Thank you for your time!
All of these treatments are for the tinea versicolor. What can I do to get rid of the dry skin and "lesions"?
I have that fungal infection on my skin (Tinea versicolor) on my back and stomache. And I’ve been using Selenium sulfide 2.5% and miconzole nitrate 2.5% since last October. I stopped using it for about a month in January though, and I also took Ketoconazole 200Mg tablets for 30days. I can still see the white patches although they’ve faded.
Is the fungus still there.. or my skin just hasn’t recovered it’s color?
Oh I had it around 4 years ago, but it successfully went away after a couple of months with this lotion thing.
i had tinea cruris (jock itch) around my groin region.
i applied ketoconazole cream for like 2 weeks and the fungal infection is almost gone i guess.
but the skin around in that region has turned dark.
is it normal? will it go off on its own?
So, i’m a teenager with a leapord lookin body =/…its called tinea versicolor….nothings worked, i tried everything….selsun blue, ketoconazole shampoo 2%, selenium silfide shampoo2.5%, i tried some pills which took it off for two weeks, but soon returned….ehhhhh idk what to do now. help?
thnx
I was diagnosed with Tinea Versicolor and was given a prescription of ketoconazole. So far, it’s been a week since I stopped treatment & I haven’t seen a difference. But usually it can take up to weeks before seeing any results.
I know most people who live in warm, humid environments are usually prone to it, and the fungus thrives in warm weather. I work-out and take warm showers, am I helping the infection return?
I’ve tried both Nizoral and Selsun Blue shampoo
Over the last 2 months I’ve developed (what my doctor has confirmed) to be tinea versicolor all over my upper arms. It started slow and all of a sudden the spots got bigger and eventually joined into bigger spots. I have a feeling I got it from a tanning bed. I started using selsun blue every day for the past 2 weeks and also for the past few weeks I’ve been taking daily doses of ketoconazole (oral nizoral), now as I’ve been told it can take months for the skin color/pigment to come back, but it just seems like every day its getting worse. Does anyone know of anything that works better and FASTER? i’m desperate, its so bad that I can’t even show my arms and have been forced to wear shirts that cover it up. I’d appreciate any advice or reassurance from anyone that knows about this!
