About 2 years ago, I rescued a little Shih Tzu with quite a few medical problems. She has epilepsy, which is now under control.. but her worst problems are her re-occurring yeast infections & skin allergies.
My vet and I have exhausted all of our options. She’s on a very specialized diet..which has pretty much eliminated her skin allergies.. but I can’t seem to beat the yeast infections and it’s driving me crazy.
I do a yeast-controlling, medicated shampoo bath a few times a week..which helps very temporarily.
So far, the only thing that has worked is the medication ketoconazole. However, my dog can only take this medication for extreme flare-ups as, paired with the phenobarbital for her seizures, is quite hard on her little liver.
Any ideas or suggestions are VERY much appreciated. I’m at a loss here.
My 4 month old’s ear was red on the inside and his brother and mother kept licking and cleaning it. so we went to the vet and he said it was a fungi ear infection and put him on drops for 10 days. but I was just wondering how the lil guy could have got this and if I should watch mom & brother. if they can catch it from him.
He is a Lab. hasn’t been in water or had a bath in a month. no other health issues.
the vet said not to clean his ears until he was done with the drops.
also can my other 2 dogs catch this from him?
he chews (or slurps) his groin area, and his paws. The vet gives him a steroid shot every other month or so, and he’s been on ketoconazole recently. I’ve read about the aveeno baths, tea rubs and all the other crap..but does anyone know of something that WORKS? preferably an antibiotic or something???
Everytime his infection gets cured he gets it the very next week, he is not able to walk properly because of this. What should i do ? I applied the medicine given by the vet, but he gets the infection again.
And she’s been going to the vets from November, her back and neck are covered in scabs/boils she’s been operated on and was stitched but the wounds came up elsewhere they just seem to be getting worse, she’s constantly on antibiotics and has had painkillers the past week. The vet has said its not life threatening but I’m having to keep her on her bed constantly as she’s getting blood everywhere and I’m worried about hygiene and my child even though its not contagious. She’s an American bulldog and is nearly seven she’s happy in herself and I wouldn’t think of putting her to sleep, should j get a second opinion, has anyone experienced this and found anything that helps.
Thank you to all for replying, however it seems that no competent experts have actually answered my question. I have done research, and have asked the vet (she says wait for the following period in 6 months), however I wanted additional objective opinions besides the one provided by my dogs vet, not subjective opinions. I relate to the concerns of most of the readers, to set the record straight, one litter, if that at all, is planned. And I will personally go to all possible homes to verify the seriousness of each possible owner before selling any pup.
Her ears are very dry on the outer edges to the point where they look to be cracking, but I am not sure if it could be some type of fungal infection either. I am calling the vet Monday, but wanted to know if anyone has experienced anything similar.
The other week, I found a rather large lump on my australian shepherd/chessie bay mix. There were also some smaller, marble sized lumps on her body. We took her to the vet, fearing it was cancer. After the biopsy, the vet called and said that she has some sort of common fungus infection that german shepherds get frequently. The vet did not have a lot of time to talk, so that is all she said. She is calling me back tomorrow to tell me more but I can’t wait! Does anyone know anything more about this? What are the next steps involved, does it cause pain, what are the effects, etc.
Thanks!
I asked her to call as soon as she found something out, and she did. She was calling me between patients. I think normally, she wouldn’t have called until she had enough time but I asked her to just because I was so concerned.
How much does it cost if I take them to the vet? And how much without going to the vet (perhaps some remedies are over-the-counter or off-the-shelf?).
How much for:
1.5mg ivermectin
30mg Advantage
liquid griseofulvin (150mg active ingredient?)
tablet griseofulvin (150mg active ingredient?)
povidone-iodine shampoo
elimite cream
lindane shampoo
selenium sulphide shampoo
itraconazole shampoo
ketoconazole shampoo (e.g. Nizoral)
Revolution (selamectin)
Which of the above list needs a prescription (and by vet or human physician)? What country is your pricing valid for? Where & how can I get the drug(s)/product(s)?
I would just like to add
witchhazel
&
Listerine
to the list.
The list is so I could have alternative treatement options. Don’t worry, I fully intend to do a drug lookup for details on dosage, etc before I buy/treat the pigs with any of them.
My outdoor farm kitty came to the house with the side of his head swollen and a large scab. Later in the day, he scratched it off and I’ve drained a lot of infection out if it (very smelly). I can’t get him to the vet because we have a foot of snow on the ground and can’t get anywhere. Is there anything we can do to help him until we can get out to the vet? He is eating just fine and acts normal, other than his open wound that is constantly draining. I imagine he got bit by something as he is a hunter.
