A blood infection is very serious, and can be difficult to diagnose as well. Get yourself to another doctor ASAP, and tell them your worries. Doctors are not omnipotent, but they do have egos, and they don't like being challenged in their diagnoses, so maybe that's where the "in your head" business came from. They tend to stick to diagnosing and treating the usual, common maladies, so you need to be proactive. Just keep being a pest til you get treatment that makes you feel better.
