Infection…?
I am 6 week pregnant and I have an infection(BV). Can this be harmful in any way for the baby? I’m treating it now, but my doctor really didn’t even me a straight answer on this.

here’s what i found: Pregnant women with BV more often have babies who are born premature or with low birth weight (low birth weight is less than 5.5 pounds).
The bacteria that cause BV can sometimes infect the uterus (womb) and fallopian tubes (tubes that carry eggs from the ovaries to the uterus). This type of infection is called pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). PID can cause infertility or damage the fallopian tubes enough to increase the future risk of ectopic pregnancy and infertility. Ectopic pregnancy is a life-threatening condition in which a fertilized egg grows outside the uterus, usually in a fallopian tube which can rupture.
your doctor should be straight w/ you on this–i’d call and complain and ask to know more.
So long as your treating it now, you and baby will be fine
If the BV is left untreated it can be linked to miscarriage. But since you’re getting it treated I wouldn’t worry about it. Be sure to follow up with the doc to make sure it’s gone. BV is pretty pesky (it’s like the opposite of a yeast infection) and sometimes requires more than one round of antibiotics to cure.
Congrats on the pregnancy mommy!
EDIT: Also, don’t let people make you feel bad like this is an STD. It can be transmitted sexually, but often it’s not. I was in no way practicing unsafe sex when I had it and my doc assured me it is not always a sexual problem!
